Compassionate Counseling
Depression. Anxiety. Trauma. Grief. If only we had a button to just turn them off! Too often people say"You shouldn't feel that way," or "Get over it." If only it were so easy! No one wants to live a miserable life.
Although there is no on-off switch for our thoughts, feelings and memories, with the right help we can change our lives and ourselves so that that our experiences can be our allies rather than tyrants that keep us from really living.

In my 30 plus years of clinical practice, I have found what helps most is warmth, respect, careful listening and a collaborative approach that emphasizes fitting the treatment to the individual person. My commitment is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can tell what you need to tell and develop the skills and self knowledge you need to build a life that works for you.


Sometimes it's hard to know which is scarier: acting on your hope to make things better or staying with what you have-however painful that might be. It's not always so easy to open up to a new person about what's troubling you. Taking your first step towards change can feel risky. It's important to be able to trust whoever you take with you for support along the way.

My office is a place where you will be listened to nonjudmentally, with care and respect. Over many years of clinical work I have encountered the full range of problems that lead a person to seek counseling. Many of my clients have been through the most harrowing of times. But even a life that seems ordinary can be disrupted by intense suffering. I will not be shocked or frightened by your story, and I will not be dismissive of a problem that you may have been told is too small to be concerned with. Whatever is troubling you, if it has led you to this page, it's big enough for us to work on. I promise your feelings, thoughts and experiences will be treated seriously and with the utmost respect. I will be here for you whether your needs can be met in a few sessions or longer term support is needed to reach your goals.
